President's Message

This starts a new game for me as your incoming President. I am excited to participate, influence and lead the growth and development of our great sport throughout Canada.

I’d like to share my overall philosophies and vision about our national organization and sport in general. My vision for Pickleball Canada is that it is known as an ideal National Sport Organization (“NSO”) through the eyes of others. Simplistically speaking, an ideal NSO is one that is player-centric and follows the models of long term player development and officials development. I have been involved in numerous Sport for Life and Coaching Association of Canada seminars and webinars, and sports management is becoming quite technical with an emphasis on safety, fun and stage appropriate development and competition; all the while focusing on the player.

I also see our sport being equitable, diverse and inclusive (“EDI”), and representative of our overall Canadian population. We are actively working on EDI initiatives that we will share with you in the near future.

Another vision of mine is that PCO is an autonomous NSO, being self sufficient and having a sustainable business model. At this point it is very difficult for emerging sports to become recognized in the eyes of Sport Canada and Coaching Association of Canada. Thus, in the short term, partnerships with other established NSOs are being discussed in order to move us forward.

In closing, I’d like to wish everyone celebrating Hanukkah, Christmas and any other religious holidays at this time of year to have a merry and safe one, and follow all the recommendations and government restrictions; be safe on (if allowed) and off the courts, err on the side of caution, as COVID-19 is not going away any time soon.

Jim Parrott
